Our Story

Mr. Wang Shun-Long grew up in a small fishing village in the Taiwan Strait. His modest beginnings shaped his start-up with a humble and grateful attitude, aiming to serve real tuna and seafood. He founded Soon Yi Tuna after realizing that, while Taiwan's tuna fishing fleet is among the best in the world, most of the catch was exported to Japan. He wanted to provide consumers with the best, freshest, most natural, and high-quality tuna at affordable prices, so that everyone could enjoy it. His idea was to build a store that serves tuna with a true sashimi taste straight from nature.
The Soon Yi tuna store, linked the Pacific Northwest with our first location in Astoria, OR. The decision was driven by our longstanding commitment to quality seafood and our desire to connect directly with local fishermen. Astoria's rich history as a canning, salmon, tuna and port city renowned for its fishing grounds made it an ideal location for us. We proudly own and operate a seafood processing facility here, ensuring that we can maintain the highest standards of freshness and sustainability. Astoria's abundant offerings, including Oregon pink shrimp, albacore tuna and Pacific whiting, align perfectly with our mission to serve exceptional seafood dishes that celebrate the bounty of the Pacific Ocean.

Natural, Original, Super Fresh

At Soon Yi Sushi, we believe what is best for the ocean is best for us.  We are deeply committed to environmental sustainability and natural practices. We responsibly harvest our tuna using eco-friendly methods that respect ocean ecosystems and ensure long-term sustainability. Our approach reflects our dedication to preserving the ocean’s health while providing you with the finest seafood. Thru transparency and supporting small business and fishermen, we served our consumers with the traditional sushi and sashimi.

With Soon Yi Sushi, frozen is fresh! Freshness is our top priority. We have our own ultra-low temperature fleet, as well as the largest super frozen storage and processing plant in Taiwan and Seattle.  Super frozen technology freezes the fish at -76°F upon catch to keep the cells alive and lock in the peak flavor and texture of our tuna, ensuring each piece is as fresh as if it were just caught. Our advanced processing technology and meticulous cold chain management keep our seafood in optimal condition, so you can enjoy sushi and sashimi that are truly fresh. This commitment to freshness ensures that every bite is an exceptional experience.

Safely Handled

Safety and quality are paramount in our operations. From the moment our tuna is harvested, it is handled with rigorous care and attention to detail to prevent contamination. Our state-of-the-art processing facilities and strict cold chain protocols uphold the highest standards of hygiene and safety. By controlling every step of the process, we guarantee that our seafood is delivered to you in the best possible condition, adhering to the most stringent safety standards. All our facilities are BRC and HACCP certified to ensure the highest food safety standards.

Healthy For Everyone

Sushi, particularly tuna, offers a wealth of health benefits. Tuna is an excellent source of lean protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin D and selenium. These nutrients support heart health, enhance brain function, and contribute to overall well-being. Additionally, sushi is low in calories while rich in nutrients, making it a healthy choice for all dietary preferences. Health benefits peak from the moment the fish leaves the ocean.  With our own ultra-low temperature fleet, we are able to maintain those health benefits by keeping the cells alive while frozen.
